About

Hands-on roots. Leadership focus.

I began as a frontend developer in 2007 and have spent nearly two decades across web development, digital commerce and engineering practice. That craft is still part of how I work — I stay close to modern platforms, performance, and the details that make products feel right.

Today my focus is portfolio engineering leadership: aligning business priorities with engineering talent, developing people, shaping standards and enabling teams to deliver across complex ecommerce programmes. I believe the best leadership stays grounded in the work.

I have a particular interest in the practical, responsible use of AI in engineering — and in how Answer Engine Optimisation and Generative Engine Optimisation are changing online discovery alongside traditional SEO.

Outside of technology, I’m a proud husband, father of five and avid traveller, having explored more than 30 countries.

Experience

Where craft meets leadership

Areas I care about deeply — and am always happy to discuss.

  • Engineering leadership

Portfolio resourcing, mentoring, recruitment, onboarding and career development — aligning engineering capability with delivery needs and creating environments where teams perform at their best.

  • Ecommerce platforms & programmes

Shopify, Adobe Commerce, Magento, WooCommerce and WordPress — architecture, delivery and platform decisions grounded in complex, real-world commerce programmes.

  • Frontend engineering

Modern frontend architecture, JavaScript, React, responsive design, accessibility and website performance — still part of how I think and lead.

  • AI-enabled engineering

Practical use of generative AI across development, documentation, discovery, testing and knowledge sharing — with judgment, not hype.

  • Search & digital discovery

Technical SEO, structured data, content architecture, and the emerging disciplines of AEO and GEO as answer engines reshape discovery.

  • Technical strategy & delivery

Architecture, platform assessment, ecommerce strategy and delivery planning across complex organisations — connecting technical decisions with practical outcomes.

Principles

How I think about engineering

  • Stay close to the craft

Technical leadership is stronger when decisions remain grounded in how software is actually designed, built and maintained.

  • Create clarity for teams

Good engineering leadership connects people, priorities and technical context so teams can make better decisions.

  • Use AI with judgment

AI should improve understanding, quality and delivery — not simply increase the volume of generated code.
